Ali Hassan was born in Doha, Qatar in1956 where he pursued his education until he studies history of art at Qatar University. He joined Qatar Museums Authority and until now he works in the field of exhibitions. Early in his life he developed a passion for Arabic calligraphy and since 1972 he worked as a calligrapher in "Al Arab", the first Qatari newspaper. He learnt by himself how to master all types of Arabic scripts through the then current local newspaper and magazines.
Ali Hassan is one of the most eminent calligraphers who have managed to give the Qatari plastic art not only local but also Arab and World recognition.
"For the past 36 years, I have used the letters of the Arabic alphabet in my art. From a purely esthetic perspective I have found in each and every letter a world of beauty. However, some 20 years ago an inner feeling attracted me to the letter "Noon" and over the coming years I began to play with and alter the letter.
