Omani artist Anwar Sonya grew up in Muscat, the capital of Oman.
He is one of the founders of realistic Omani art, particularly in most
of the art exhibitions in the region.
Anwar Sonya has participated greatly in the movement and placing the Omani
art in the international eye. Since 1993, he has taken part in almost
every exhibition at the Fine Art Society in Oman and he staged exhibitions
for the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture, Muscat from 1980-1997.
Anwar has been awarded by the country for his services to art. He received
three awards from HM Sultan Qaboos as the best artist.
He has participated in international exhibitions in Kuwait, Tunisia, Turkey,
Cairo, Bahrain, Sharjah, Tokyo, London and Rome. Numerous awards have
honoured his artistic activities, he was honoured twice in Sharjah as
the most distinguished Arab artist.
